I want to hardwire my CB into my truck (2003 F250SD) and I know that it should be run through the fuse block. My question, since I'm not really up to speed on wiring is where in the fuse block should I run the power wire? I have done basic wiring stuff before but have never messed with the fuse block.
You don't even need to mess with the fuse block. (Just pull fuse #29 out while you do the wiring so you don't pop something.) I wired my CB to "Customer Access" circuit #29. It's a 10 amp circuit, which is an ignition-switched circuit and way enough to run a CB. The wire is white with a light blue tracer. If you look at you OBD II port under the dash, follow that wire bundle up towards the radio, you'll find a loose wire with a black tape end-cap on it. I put a female shielded spade connector on it that way if it ever comes loose, it won't short circuit againt the dash frame.
That's great. I'll copy this and put it away until I return from Iraq. I'm going to mount the CB on the roof and run the wires in between the roof and headliner.
I used the plug for the brake controller and connected the power and ground to both the brake controller and my CB. It is sufficient with the 15 amps fuse from the factory and the pigtail plug comes with you truck, you just need to plug it in under the dash above the diag. plug just as the included directions show. Also, I use a "through the glass" antenna to keep from pushing a cable through the firewall or cutting through the back wall. Took about 30 minutes for everything once I got the brake controller mounted to my CB without putting the screws in too deep and splitting the circuit board, very tricky..... Just what worked for me. Good luck and watch yourself, I've been there and it's no picnic for sure.. I was lucky enough to go between "wars" and only had to deal with irregular missile attacks that were thrwarted by our Patriots. Thanks for your service, Mat
I might run the wires that way but I'm mounting the CB on the roof. I have a picture of how it was done on a friends truck. I'll post it on my gallery tomorrow. You are welcome and thanks. Semper Fidelis.
Ah, now no one said I was a jarhead. How did you know? Sergeant, five years. F-18 Hydraulics and Structures Mech. Take care of yourself and good luck with the truck too.
Went to Millington, only to find it deserted. One of those funny stories military life is full of. They sent me on recruiting assistance between MCT and A school to allow time for the schools to move and forgot to change my orders to send me to Pensacola so I show up with no one to meet me, no wonder the cabbie looked at me funny. I was in from 96 to 01, just in between wars luckily. I thought for sure I would get called back after 9-11 but they never called (maybe they didn't have my number.. hah) So that put me at A school in Pensacola first quarter 97. How long till you have to go to the big sandbox?
I have a hypothetical question. If a guy, not me of course, wanted use an amp, linear, in his Super Dude would the extra output wattage of the radio have any effect on the trucks computer system? And also for those who have CB's in there trucks where do you mount them....for this other guy of course.

I wouldn't know why it would, I have run a linear while driving my dads C-16 with no problems while my truck was getting worked on, and he has one as well. But he has had no problems yet, don't know why there would be.
I have an auto trans and ESOF 4x4 so I mounted mine on the hump (middle of floor) and attached the mike hanger with glue strips to the area below the storage hole at the bottom of the dash. I ran the wires directly into the dash from there and the antenna cable under the carpet and back to the rear window by way of the door trim.
Right now I have a temp setup. I made a wooden frame that fits on the center hump and have a power plug for the power recepticle. I will be changing this because the wife likes to ride in the middle seat and the CB gets in the way, not to mention if I'm out somewhere and the roads are fairly rough it tends to bounce around and cause problems. I have put a picture of how it will be mounted on the roof in my gallery.
I have a small Uniden and it fit in the hole in the dash that the factory brake controller/up fitter switches would have fit into ... using a cowl mounted 4 foot whip .... ... need to keep the center hump free , it is nice to have a lady friend sitting in the middle !
