Handling Help

I have a 1997 Ford Ranger 3.0 L 2wd. I was wondering what there is out there to help the handling, mainly without a load, for the rear end. As many of you probably know, the rear end is a little light without a load and can get jumpy when hitting bumps on the road, or the rear wheels can loose traction easily when its wet outside. I just want to know what if anything can be done to help the handling. I'm not looking to lower it or anything, the truck is unmodified, and I dont want to spend an arm and a leg either. I've heard of Roadmaster Active Suspension system, but i dont know where to find it in a store, but its pretty expensive too, at least for what I want to spend on it.

Cheapest thing you can do is just put some weight in the back of it. When I lived in snow country, we used to drive out to the cinder pits and fill up with a load of cinders to help traction in the winter. A few sand bags would do the trick too. Other than that, you can try some better shocks, like Bilsteins which I really like on my truck. Also, try lowering the air pressure a little on your rear tires when the truck is empty for a softer ride. Don't forget to fill them back up when the truck is loaded.
