Just purchased Extang Tuff Tonno III online through PartsFX.com
Put Tonno on last night, and could not get the tarp pulled and latched to the tailgate rail. It was as if it was 1/4 inch too short.
Today, after the hot Florida sun baked it, I was able to stretch it on. It this the snapless type. The Truck accessory place here in Brandon told me they wont even sell that type because of that problem.
They said the snap type has an adjuster in the back for that very reason. The people at Extang were not helpful and rather dumb.
Anybody else had any experience in all this??
Iav ethe same pbem only with a diffrent brand of snap type i am takeing it off because it is impossible to get snaped if any onehas any tips ( i tried letting i sit in the sun all day) let me know
I had the same problem and a mechanic friend taught me how. You start at the cab and snap and push real hard toward the tailgate..repeating on both sides down to the tailgate. Then snap the tailgate.
Hope this helps.
My experience is that Extang tonneaus are tough to stretch when they are new. The best method that I've found to deal with this is to let the top sit in the sun for a little while to help heat it up. Depending on the temperature, this could be as little as 5 minutes to as long as a half an hour.
If your top is like mine, the top bows have two positions, high for warm weather to keep it taut and low for cooler weather so it's easier to snap. Regardless of the temperature, if you're having a tough time snapping on the top, try using the top bows in the lower position. You can always move them to the higher position if the top starts to flap excessively.
Extang makes a great product; I'm sure that once you break this one in, you'll be very pleased.
On my 94 I have a tonno cover that was a pain to install. I put in four posts in holes on bed that would catch the frame w/tonneau cover and then drilled 4 screw holes to hold frame/tonno. Now I take off and install tonneau in the time it takes to take out 4 screws---no pulling, cursing.
I had the same thing on my 99 Ranger. I found that you had to let it warm up for a bit before I could get it on and off. In the winter time up here it would not come off. I went with the snaps for my 04 Edge and have had alot better luck with that even in the winter time.
Thanks for the welcome----I had/have problem with my tailgate latch----it broke in the closed position. Looking on the site I was able to get ideas to at least open....now I have to buy a replacement handle and fix.
