I wouldn't be scared of a C-6, but the E4ODs will leave you stranded.

E40d's are decent, but expect 1500-2000$ rebuild every 60-120K miles depending on how you use them.

The e40d will have a od button on the end of the gearshift.I think the 1st years may have had a dash mounted switch.

If you live in the boonies like I used to. Then avoid the E4OD. They are pretty good, but if you spend a lot of time on back roads and your life might depend on your truck, then I would find a stick to buy even if I had to travel to find one. If you live in town or close to town and you don't mind the possibility of having to walk home or have it towed, then the E4OD will probably work o.k. for you. Just be sure and take it easy on it, and maintain it pretty good.

If ya get the auto what is your left leg gonna do ? And you'll have "withdrall" , you'll find yourself reaching for a gearshift that's not there , you'll climb in the truck and your left foot will go for a clutch pedel that's nonexistent and slam to the floor ! Then there's the loss of the "fun factor" of going through the gears . An auto just sounds soooo BORING !! LOL !!!

With a C6 you will not be able to cruise at highway speeds very efficently. Its top gear is only a 1 to 1 raito meaning that you will be turning lots of RPM, burning lots of fuel and not going very fast. I think the extra care the E40D requires is well worth the extra gear if you like driving over 55mph.
