Do u know if Ford is ever going to redesign the Ranger and when they do will they ever offer Four full size doors I don't own one but was just curious what u guys have heard? fordguy101
id say a ranger redesign will happen within the next model year or so, now that g.m. and chrysler have remodeled their designs, ford should know where they need to improve to stay competetive. not much in my opinion. the S-10 was better than the colorado is and the dakota just keeps getting uglyer. i couldnt be happier with my 11 year old truck, ford quality never gets outdated! Dave.
Funny thing is, I sell Fords, and I get a LOT of people buying Rangers lately after looking at the new colorado's and dakota's. It's the only 'compact' truck, while everyone elses are midsize, and getting uglier and UGLIER! Even the Tacoma's are now midsize, and look more like a chevy (squarish wheel-wells and stuff). A four-door Ranger is an Explorer sport-trac. If you want a fullsize, get an F150 . On the other hand, I WOULD much rather have the Ranger bodystyle in a four-door than I would a Sport-Trac
yeah u do have a point about the new trucks they are very ugly and another thing I have never gotten how come Ford put those puny little seats in the back of the four door Rangers they got to do somthing differen't pretty soon? thanks fordguy101
I belive I read in car and driver that the Ranger was going to get an "update" within the next year, but not a full redesign for at least 3-4 more years. Makes sense to me. I hope they don't update them, they look awesome now, and you know they'll do something crazy, just because everyone else is. But one thing I hope they keep, as mentioned above, is the "compact" size. Everyone else just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I like having a truck that is very capable, but also easy to drive and park. And judging by sales, other people seem to like that too.
I'd like to replace my 99 4.0L pushrod engine some day, but Ford NEEDS to work on the gas mileage on these 4.0L OHC engines, IMHO.
I just wouldn't want to have to deal with todays poor gas mileage on the 4.0L OHC engine.
The 4 dr extra cab body style I have is ok & room isn't a problem. The six foot bed is long enough for me & if you need a seven footer you can get one in a regular cab.
The tow limits are enough, but my 99 NEEDS BETTER BRAKES!!!!!
No way would I want the towing max allowed behind me & try to stop it with the factory supplied brakes they have given us on my 99 4.0L 4x2 with 4 wheel ABS!!!! I'd rate them barely adequate.
So, significantly upgrade the brakes over what we got on the 99's (if they haven't already done so) & improve the fuel mileage to at least match what we had in 99 on the 4.0L pushrod engine & I'd likely buy another Ranger 4.0L OHC right now!!!!
I don't need, nor do I want, a mid or full sized gas guzzling hog that won't fit in my gararge or driveway & is a cuss to park, so they can leave the Rangers size alone IMHO.
I've read that it's not likely until 2008. Every few months I spend some time surfing for spy shots and I've never found ANYTHING. My 93 is up to 240K, I'm hoping the "new" truck arrives before mine expires (which does not appear that it will be anytime soon). We'll all agree that the current design is solid but I would not by another brand-new Ranger until it's at least significantly updated. This 93 is my first and only new car purchase. I'd like to make it a tradition of buying another new Ranger with a fresh look.
yeah u do have a point about the new trucks they are very ugly and another thing I have never gotten how come Ford put those puny little seats in the back of the four door Rangers they got to do somthing differen't pretty soon? thanks fordguy101
I don't like those seats, either, but I would torture someone I don't like and reluctantly have to give a lift to by making them sit there instead. So, they do come in handy....
Oh yeah, try a 3-door s-truck. One lousy seat in back. I told my manager at my previous business, but nooooo, they had to buy a Chevy. Some truck to take 3 kids and 2 adults in, in a pinch, if their Villager is out!
I swear the same drunk designers drew up the dakota and colorado. They hit every branch on that ugly tree. I think the rangers look nice. The tacomas are not bad looking too. I told my self when I get out of school Im going to buy a brand new ranger FX2 I think they are sweet.
