Well i ended up selling my 1986 ranger stx, to many problems...got stranded at gas station after filling it half full...had to call a tow truck...$55.00 that broke the camel back!! So i purchased a 2000 ranger XLT 4x4 extended cab v6, not sure of the engine size though?! it only has 68,286 miles on it, hope i have good luck with this one...its a 5sp..seems a little slow though. Are these particular models known to be slow.
Hi Micheal, I've got the same model except its a 4x2 and auto. Have had it now for a little over two months and its just like new! 70k miles on 8-26 and only reading 71 now so really don't run it a lot. I'm really in love w/the truck, get compliments on it wherever I go, running about 16mpg in town. NO troubles at all except had a "door ajar" alarm go off when turning hard to the left, but w/the advice on this forum, just sprayed a shot of silicone into the door latch and it was fixed! Ya gonna enjoy your truck!
Thanks for the info...i think i'm going to enjoy it....i was looking to put in a low profile diamond plated tool box..but everywhere i look they don't fit the stepside model i have, wonder why that is? the low profiles look good on some trucks...may just settle for the standard fit.
Sounds like you have a 3.0 like I do, not the fastest engine but a very dependable and long-lasting engine, the power comes in around 3000rpms. Best of luck with the new wheels!!!
I also have the 3.0 5-speed. It's pretty much the slowest thing around with my 265/75-16 tires and 3.73 gears, but i'm not in any hurry usually, so i don't care. Let me tell ya, trying to find a toolbox to fit the stepside bed is hard. I went to every truck accessories place I could find for a whole weekend, and didn't find one till the end of the second day. You might look on the net to see who makes them for the stepside. the one I have is made by just a little company, I think called RTS or something. It's not the low-profile kind, which i bet will be IMPOSSIBLE to find, but I think it looks real good. I've had it for about 2 years and it's held up well, except for me breaking a key off in the lock, but that was my fault. I got it from an accessories place in Indianapolis for $200. Not bad. I'll post back the producers name and number tommorow....it's on the box. Maybe they make a low profile one too....
Thanks...pepboys told me i'll never find one in a low profile, kinda unfair..you would think somebody would make one...my inside bed width is 45.75 inches, i'm going to keep looking...
Thats very nice indeed, but that concept will not work for my purpose, i need the open area.I notice my check engine light came on today, i hope this is not a bad sign...only 68,344 miles.
Wow. that diamond plate looks pretty snazzy! Nice job! Didn't get the name of the toolbox manf. today, but i'll do it first thing tommorow......I'm writing it down now! lol
