well i lost oil pressure on my 360!!!!i already checked its not the gauge.is a mechanical gauge and the tubing is good.i shut it off immediately after looking at the gauge and noticed a different sound.the truck was just idleing but revvved it a little and thats when i shut it off.now my question is how hard is it to take out the pan??i just want an initiative and know what to look at before i bang my head on the pan trying to get it out.its all stock on a 72 f250 2wd.do i have to lift up the engine????whats the best pump out there???well any help appreciated!!!!i use this truck for hauling its my baby!!!!!!!!
the pan is pretty easy, i just did it 2 weeks ago. lift the engine a couple of incles, unbolt the pan and twist it out. SHould take no more than 30 minutes to get the pan out.
My bet is the shaft is broke, not your pump. You can check by pulling the dizzy and looking down for the pump shaft.
I use an engine hoist to lift the engine as high as possible. Then loosen the pan bolts. It will not come out because of the pickup, so you have to get in there and remove the 2 Pump bolts. This is the hardest part, but can be done. Actually, getting it back together is the hardest part. Get a new ARP pump shaft. You should probably consider the melling HV57 pump while you're in there. I use fishing line interwoven into the clip on the pump shaft to hold it in place, while I installed the pump. When everything is in place, just pull the line out the clip. It's alot easier to drop the shaft in from the top without the clip. But if you go pulling the dizzy later, you might drop the pump shaft in the pan..Then you're back to pulling the pan again. Make sure to block the motor with something so you're not depending on the hoist to save your hands.
yeah it is simple but as mention the hardest part is the two oil pump bols one is easy the other you can't use a closed end wrench on you have too use a open end wench and i broke two of them trying hope you have better luck but i agree with the high volume pump idea
