Stuck in 4x4
I have an 87 Eddie Bauer with Manual Hubs & Manual Transfer case. I checked out the hubs and they are unlocking just fine but the transfer case is staying in 4H even with the shifter in 2wd. After about 40 to 60 miles it comes out of 4H by itself. It has 78k original miles on the truck and I cannot imagin that the shift forks are that worn that it will not slide the 4h out of gear. The fellow that owned it before me was 81 years old and did not 4 wheel off road. Has any one else had this problem and what can I do to try to fix it. Short of droping the transfer case. It has the bolt on linkage that looks non-adjustable

This could be easy
I had a 82 that did the same thing. It turned out to be the fluid in it. Yes, thats right it was the damn fluid. Remember that it does not mix with the transmission fluid so it never gets changed!!! When it heats up it expands!!!! Pull the plug and check it out
