Heater temp???
I have a 1986 f150 4x4 302 fuel inj.
This summer I changed the thermastat (I believe that the new one was a 180 degreer).
My heater just doesnt get quite hot just a little bit of warm air but not untill I am on the road a while. Should I have installed the 195 degreer.
Also the defroster; shouldnt it blow out warm air as well. Sounds as though the air conditioner kixs on and off. (does the mix selection do floor and defrost or ???).
I did flush out the core and it was quite dirty.
Any help will be warmly appreciated.
Keep the 180 thermostat because the temp range is just fine. As for the defrost, me thinks it's normal for the A/C clutch to come on. I've heard the same thing on my Dad's F-150. But I would replace the heater core for sure.

Agree on heater core though there is a slight chance your valve isn't opening when you slide the temp selector over. Watch under the hood on the heater hose where the little valve is and have someone move it.
Changing a heater core is quick and easy. I just did one not too long ago for a leak problem and I think I was done in under an hour including breaks. -gggg-.
If you have air like it sounds you do, it will come out from the inside. Just pull the glove box, a couple screws ( 5/16 I think), disconnect the hoses and it's out. I wrote a full how to a few weeks ago and it should come up on a search.
Good Luck,
Lee
Got a new heater core ($15.00) thought it was going to cost a lot more than that. Replaced it yesterday and what a differance. I now have hot air and quick.
