I plan to be soon getting some autometer gauges. I have a quick question, do the gauges come with a tap, or do you have to go buy a tap, and then look up on the drill and tap chart to see what size to drill. Also what are you guys doing to remove any chips from the drilling that might can fall into the manifold?

For me the easiest place to mount the thermocouple is in the up pipe, about two inches off the drivers side exhaust manifold. Just a 1/4" hole and a clamp, takes literally five minutes to mount the thermocouple.

To orient the picture, that's the transmission bellhousing at the top, and the top of the oil filter head to the right. Crawl under there on your back and you can see that it is a clear and easy shot with the drill.

The head gaskets start looking for a new home at around 40 psi.

Cookie,

I may have been miss led before I thought the head gaskets were at risk around 35-38 psi. You would know better than I, just curious.

Well, the way the pressure is applied is at least as important as the total pressure, but I can make more than 35 at will (don't know how much more, gauge only reads to 35) and have not had any problems....108,000 on the ticker now.

Basically what I meant was, you are not likely to pop a head gasket with stock injectors, unless you are squirting something other than #2.

Gotcha, I was wrong for some reason I had 35-38 on the brain. Oh well better to be too low then too high. Thanks for setting me straight.

Thanks cookie88,
I realized the MS was wrong, had a long day.....I'll possibly use your methode for the thermo.....was just wondering if placement had any adverse effect on effective reading. Thats all.....................Thanks again

Gauge question

I have been looking at auto-meter gauges but can't determine which one to use for pyro temp. Any suggestions?

I've got the C2's, the boost gauge comes with a map sensor for signal and the gauge is electronic. Pyro comes with clamp kit and threaded bushing it can be installed either way. I had to use a resistor in the light power wire, the were to bright for me.

Tough question because the biggest variable is the driver but basicaly:

Stock = very little chance of overheat No Gauges needed.
Improved exhaust and AIS = even less chance of overheat No Gauges needed.
Chip or programmer = get gauges first especially if your gonna tow.
