??? For Pro

Pro, (or anyone running a remote mounted radiator), What size tubing did you use to go from the front of your truck to the radiator? I was thinking about using 1 3/4"-2" light wall tubing but I'm not sure the press vs flow will be correct or if it's even that critical,

I run an-20 braided hose for my upper hose with translates into 1-1/4 (20-an = 20/16 = 1-1/4), and my lower one is made from 1-1/2 exhaust pipe

I was thinking you may have some input on this, just wasn't sure if your radiator was mounted in the back, thanks for the info,

you probably don't run your truck around much, but do you have any heating trouble due to the lack of air flow trough the radiator? (I know you guys are running electric fans but I was just a little conserned about not getting an efficient amount of airflow, having to flow around the cab and up through the bed if the floor is cut out)

I've got a smallblock in one of my trucks, and I run 3/4" front to back 1" back to front. On my other truck, with a 460, I use 1" for both, but that's having some issues, but I think that's mostly due to an anemic fan.
We actually had a discussion about this a while back; too big, and there isn't enough coolant getting to the radiator and back fast enough. Too small, and the pressure is too fast, and coolant is being pumped before it can be sufficiently cooled. I think that's the problem I have, so a fan upgrade is first. If that doesn't do it, then I'll jump to a bigger radiator and see if that helps.

Mine matches the diameter of the stock radiator hoses and is made form steel pipe weilded up. Thus far I have no cooling issues at all it stays at 190 even if idleing for an hour.

It is in my 74 bronco with a 302

I run 1 1/2 copper pipe, which also acts as a heat exchanger so I have zero cooling issues with my setup. There's a pretty good thread in here somewhere where we discuss all the pros and cons of these setups and a couple setups are laid out spec by spec.

edit: Heres one with some important points: http://www.fordtrucks.com/forums/sho...ount+radiator+

I may not run the truck around alot, but at the end of the day, if I am still in it in 2 classes I can run as many as 6 races back to back, and if anything will over heat an engine that will do it, the hottest mine ever got was 210. shut it off, and left the water pump, and fans on, and before I got unstrapped, and out of the truck it was back down to 190. And remember that is after 4 back to back 7600rpm runs through mud on an 85deg day. with no cool down time run back to the line stage, and blast off again.
As you noticed pro's is mounted hi, mine is not he is probably right about hi mount helping with the cooling, but it wouldn't help in my case and would just allow for mud to get into it, but his other point is very good you NEED a good fan with shroud to get the airflow

Pro, with that copper tube, have you ever had problems with cracks? Cause i know that stuf is a major pain to use for fuel line purposes cause one crack and its done for.

No, no problem with cracks. The Type L pipe I use has a wall thickness of 1/16 so its much thicker than anything you'd find in a fuel line. Having some soft flex points at either end of the hard line helps minimize stress as well.

This truck was only supposed to be a budget bogger, with the only only being spent on the tires and wheels and the biggest bling was the 205 swap, but now a built 400 , sas with 60's front and rear, detroit f/spool R, and a 6" inch lift (a'la proeliater)and now a rear mount rad and electric fans are on the way once i get time to preform all the fab work. There's goes the budget

Lets see here, i think we could convince ivan that he just needs to have a twin turbo setup thats dipped in chrome

It's funny Stange, cause I was going to build a mall crawler and now look what's happened. I'm trying to gather all the details and info for the engine build right now but I guarantee a little more bling than chromed turbos. I'm strapping an 8-71 blower to it . . . might even spring and get it polished.
