Head rest removal

looking for information on how to remove head rests on an '04 superduty, bought seatcovers for it and cant get em off, thanks in advance, Dave

Don't know about an '04, but on older trucks, there is a small "U" shaped spring clip that snaps into a deeper set of notches in the chromed headrest posts, thus preventing the removal of the headrests. Try making a sleeve from the plastic from a pop bottle. Raise the headrest, wrap the sleeve around the support posts and push it down into the guide. On a '92, it worked by preventing the little clip from engaging in the notches. Hope this helped.

Don't know about Fords, but on my Camaro I had the same problem, it is also held by a notch down the shaft, I pulled up the headrest as far as it goes then slipped a length of banding strap down in front of the shaft and pushed them both down till I felt it click the notch out, then just pull out the headrest and strap together.
