I've got a 74 f100 with the dana 21 transfer case. Yesterday I was shifting into third gear when I pushed in the clutch pedal it felt like something snapped and the pedal went to the floor. Now it wont go into any gear unless the truck is off. Could I have broken the pressure plate. I know i've got to tear into it, my transfercase is attached to the tranny is it smarter to remove as one unit or pull the transfercase first. If anyone has done this type of set up, any info would greatly help. Thanks.
Hi,
Sorry to read the bad news. I would guess that the pivot ball that the clutch fork pivots on has broken. Does your bell housing have an inspection cover on it? If so, take it off and see if you can see anything.
Unfortunatly, as you have stated you are going to have to pull the tranny/Tcase. Is there anyway you can remove the tranny cross member bolts and just slide the tranny assembly rearward? This after removing the driveshaft of course.
Good luck,
Lee
My tranny does have an inspection plate, I'll take a look before i start pullin stuff apart. is the pivit ball attached to the bell housing or will have to pull it apart to fix it ? I looked at the cross member, thanks for the idea I'll try to move it back all attached if I can. Thanks for all the info!
I checked all the linkage and its pushing the fork to ingage the clutch but it wont go into gear. I'm going to pull the inspection plate tomorrow and hopefully find the problem. Thanks for the response. Dustin
