What type of exhaust and mufflers do you have?????
It has stock manifolds, 2 1/4 inch pipes, crossover, Flowmaster DeltaFlow 40 series mufflers and exiting at the rear bumper. Don't have that deep rumble, sounds good but not what I was expecting. Could it be the mufflers????
If you want a low rumble sound get a set of ecco tips. I dont know what they really call them, but the chrome exhaust tips that flare out to larger than your pipes. They let the exhaust ecco before it exits and gives it a low rumble to it. I dont mean the fart tube style like they put on rice burners, you've probly seen the ones I mean on other pickups.
I bought my truck with stock exhaust before the muffler. It's a glasspack with dual exhaust after it and those ecco tips. After I get the inspection sticker I'm gunna remove the cats and save them for next year, then put on some shorty headers. I'd like to replace that glasspack with a Flowmaster too when $ is avail.
The FlowMaster 40 series is for street use, they are meant to have a low (not loud) sound. I also have those on my 302 EFI, but its on a single 3 in pipe from the cat back. I installed the tip that makes it rumble nicely and still not be load enough to hear sound from inside..(talking on phone can be bad if you can't hear what your saying)...They do make a differnent type thats a 50 series I think, but you can go to their website and "LIsten" to the differnent muffers and the kinds of noise they will make. of course its flowmasters.cam (put a o there with the a is)
A set of long tube headers will make the sound deeper and crisper as well. The best sound exhausts i think are large diatmeter (3" and larger) exhausts, single or dual, the larger diameter make the sound even deeper, and it gets rid or that rappy/poping sound that is just plain horrible.
The tips are called "boom tubes". They basically act as a resonator to increase the rumble a bit. I prefer the sound of a nice single 3 inch exhaust, if done right, and from the y pipe on back, will actually improve performance ofer dual 2 1/4 pipes, and for roughly the same price. Real world, useable daily driver performance that is.
Get rid of the Delta flow 40 and get a regular 40 series. The delta kills the sound.
One of my friends has an identical truck as mine, with the exception it is blue. He had regular 40 series Flowmasters and it did sound great outside, but you could hardly hear the Pioneer 140 watt stero inside. It was loud. He switched to DeltaFlow 40 series to quiet the sound inside. With regular 40 series my truck would run the 1/4 mile about a truck length ahead of his, his front bumper would be at my back bumper. With the DeltaFlow 40's, his front bumper was at the front of my door in the 1/4 mile. Power seemed to increase big
