Hello all! I have just purchased a new '04 F150 with a 5.4 L engine. I plan on using 5/20 semi-synthetic oil and a Motorcraft filter for the oil changes. I may switch to full synthetic after the first few oil changes.
My question is this: (1) Does Ford change the oil after original start up?
(2) Is it necessary to change the oil after 500 or so miles
(to get rid of any metal particles from assembly)
I want to maintain this engine as well as possible.
Thanks Lx. I will change it @ 1,000 or before. I was leaning that way -cheap insurance, right?
I have heard that after assembly at the factory the engines are started, run for a couple of minutes, shut down and drained of their oil. Do you or anyone else out there know if this is true or not?
Ford is WAY to cheap to drain the oil and refill it, that engine is fired and shiped out, what you do with it is your choice, the motorcraft semi-synthetic 2-30 and filter are good, I like a 1000 mile or less oil change and a 3000 mile oil change, after that just regular oil changes.
