Cool carburetor problems in 66 van !!

Hello:

I need some help with carburetor for 66 ford van. Seems like I cannot get one to work
for more than 7-12 months at a time. Getting stock 1 barrel Holley rebuilt, would like to know if anybody has used another type, newer type and still fit on manafold? The one I have now is OK until get to 60-70 mph then starts missing I can stop missing by pulling out choke. Mechanic has been working on it but cannot solve problem for me. Soooooo - thought I would ask others how they have tackled this problem. I have had this truck since 1968 and been through many carburetors, getting harder to get good ones and people that know how to work on them.

Thanks for the help

You probably have a filter filled near capacity with rust or dirt. Most folks replace a good carburetor with a new one because they pumped dirt into the first one causing problems. Then they think they cant buy a good carb because they continue to pump dirt into the replacements. The best thing a man can do to his older vehicle is clean out the gas tank and change the fuel filter. So many perceived performance problems are caused by dirt and water in the fuel system.
