the Allison and Torqshift are very closely matched in stock form because Ford built the TS to compete with the Allison. But when it comes to modifying each to hold big hp the Allison is at a huge advantage because other than converter there isn't much available for the TS.
A friend of mine has a 04' PowerStroke/TorqShift combo. Turbo and tranny went out at 30 miles.
Let me guess, he probably put a 120hp chip in it with nothing else, was hot rodding around and blew his tranny from too much horsepower and smoked his turbo from too high of egt's ?? Am I close???

There isn't much, Yet...
The Allison has been around longer than the TS, the aftermarket manufacturers have had a lot more time to work with it.
Real world: I've towed with both and prefer the 6.0 PSD: I bought it to tow and then found out that IMO it rides better than either of my two Jaguars- So I sold mine, but kept the wifes...
I am not an idiot!!!
A great comparison would be with the 7.3 trannies and the Allison.
Those two are more alike than the TS is....to the Allison
Yeah, good point Tim.
Unfortunatley I have to say I think the Allison is a better Tranny, I have seen many a problem with the 4R100 and even more issues with the E40D.
However they can be built to be pretty strong, but the Allison seems to be pretty strong to begin with...

Please explain. It seems to me that the the TS and Allison are very comparable. What would make the 7.3 tranny more like the Allison? Wasn't that a 4 speed tranny?

That would be my guess, too. I've often wondered why people spend good money on a nice machine, and then screw it. I finally realized that 1/2 of all people have an IQ of less than 100.

Well statistically no...
Remember an IQ graph is a Bell curve, being normalised about 100, subsequently the largest percentage of people have a IQ of 100, compared to anything else.
Above and below 100 it is equal porportions, therefore it cannot be 1/2 of the people have less than 100. Allow me to demonstrate.
Example: (numbers are used for referance, and are not accurate)
4% of the population have an IQ of 100.
Therefore 96% (100%-4%) have an IQ above or below 100
As it is normalised, 1/2 of this 96% must be below 100 IQ.
Therefore 48% have an IQ below 100, not 50%
Sorry for being a smart so and so, and I don't mean to offend you at all, but I have read some of your previous posts, and I just couldn't help myself
The point is jeb campare the two...becasue the other comparison is wore out
Thanks. I get it. I don't think there's much comparison here, though. The auto tranny that was behind the 7.3 was kind of a known problem area for ford and it was only a 4 speed. Seems to me the Allison has it all over that one. Did it have grade braking?
