90 Aerostar 4.0l. Strange starting problem. It takes exactly 4 serious cranks to start the car. On the 4th crank, it starts great and runs well. This is true even if you start up a few minutes after stopping and the motor is warmed up. I can hear the fuel pump engage each turn of the key.
An interesting things is, if I turn the key to full on, without cranking, and leave it a couple of seconds, then repeat a total of 4 times, if I then crank the engine it starts right up.
I have changed virtually everthing due to other problems, including the fuel pressure regulator, but still the problem. It's almost like it takes a while to build up the pressure. Filter is good, new gas cap, etc.
