I think I know the answer to this already but I wanted to get a second (and third and fourth) opinion before I spent the money on the parts.
I have a 95 Ranger (4.0 Liter, 2WD, SuperCab) with 117000 miles on it. It has become very difficult to put in gear when the vehicle is at a stop. I generally have to finesse/wrestle it into first or any other gear. Once I am moving it shifts pretty normally. The clutch does not slip at all (even in 5th under full throttle).
I have tried bleeding the master cylinder to no avail. My guess is that the slave cylinder has gone bad and needs replacement. While I have the trans out it only makes sense to replace the clutch.
Does it sound like I am on the right track?
Many thanks to all in advance for your valuable assistance!
MIne does exactly the same thing on my 99 Ranger! I got a new clutch put in about 7K miles ago, and it appeared ever since then. I would like to know this also.
Check the mastercylinder for leaks and then look at the slave cyl (in tranny case) so while its out R&R the system. But it initially sounds like the master is leaking/bleeding off.
