Guage vs. Light wiring

Hey, everybody, I have a question about the harness plug. Is there supposed to be a difference if it has guages or lights? If so, can I swap the guage plug on to the wiring? By that, I mean can I unplug each wire and put it in the new plug? I am talking about the main plug that goes into the back of the guage cluster. I have 2 different guage clusters, and neither fits my harness, which originally had lights. Thanks in advance, Ted

I have answered this many times in this forum.

To have gauges you have to have the entire main harness...Why ? because the cluster for havinggauges takes an 18 pin connector.
The printed circuit has its own system.

The idiot light cluster requires the 14 pin connector.

You would need a pin-out describing what goes to what.

So, basically, I need a whole new harness to run guages?
