I was wondering if anyone knew which years or models did the C6 transmission come in 67-72 ford trucks behind FE engines? I am looking for a C6 to go behind my 390 FE engine.
It came in lots of them, all the way up to '76. That's the last year Ford used the FE.
You can also use one from a car up to '70. That's the last year Ford used FEs in cars.
I recommend you get the one with the slip joint in the transmission. It is easier to find and/or fabricate a propellor shaft for one of those.
The other type will have a U-joint bolt-on output shaft, and it will require a two-piece propellor shaft with a carrier bearing and a bearing mount.
Just my thoughts.

Yeah pre 70' s are the best, have "fins" on top for extra strength, just make sure you get the right slip yoke.Should be about 1 1/2'' longer in front of splines, if not it will wobble in tailshaft and create havoc. And it ain't cheap to fix.
Well I am looking for one bolted to an FE and I want to put it in my 4x4. I did not think Ford bolted c6's to 4x4's so I want to get one and have the tailshaft swapped to bolt an np205 to it. Any input on this? Has anyone done it? If so what did it entail? Or did Ford make a c6 that bolts to an FE with a transfer case for 4x4's?
My brother did this once. He took his fe c6 and a 4wd c6 from a 400m, took them to a transmission shop and they swapped the inside guts and tailshaft. That way the 4wd tailshaft and adapter would work in the fe case.
I had a C6 in my 75 3/4, divorced case. I can't say on the 1/2 tons, but the case can be swapped as described. Some 2wd trucks came with a short tail like the divorced case setup, might work for you. I don't know if the shaft is the right length for the case or not.
