the dual mass flywheel was built to absorb some of the diesel vibrations which are harder on the transmissions. it also makes the transmission seem quieter
problems dont last as long, cant resurface them, they wear with the clutch so they get bad, as the clutch gets bad. causing chatter, vibration, slipping bla bla.....and there $1000
single mass can be reused no moving parts to go bad, get higher clamp load,
but with single mass you can hear the tranny more and transfers some more vibration to the rest of the powertrain. but luk clutch packs have been engineered to absorb some of that vibration.
amsoil synthetic atf works great in theese trannys also
the whole conversion kit for the luk is about $600
ive got a luk in 2 trucks and wont ever put anything else in
We put a luk single mass conversition into my cousins truck. Works great and was alot cheaper than stock. Only the throwout bearing that comes with it isnt very good.
I did the conversion kit from Idaho trans on ebay and I am very pleased. No problems with any of the items in the kit. I think I paid somewhere around 500 for the flywheel, clutch and all other parts to do the transfer. I have not heard any whine or trans noises. Shifts are normal and I am very happy with the whole thing. I would not think twice about the kit... makes $$$$ "cents" to do it!!!

Rokrawl, I have had no towing issues at all. I haul off scrap metal for a friend using his dump trailer about twice a month and it's not uncommon for the trailer to weigh 12,000 loaded. I also pull my mud bogger on a gooseneck alot and no problems there. To anyone else I would just recomend getting a ford throwout bearing.
