PCV routing questions

Trying to figure out exactly how the PCV system hoses should be routed and not appearent in the Haynes manual for my '82 F150 w/ 302 V8...appears to be incorrectly routed on my truck.....

Present config
The PCV valve is in the oil fill cap on the drivers side valve cover and routed directly to the nipple on the base, toward the back side of the stock 2v carb where crankcase fumes are re-entered to the motor to be "burnt" off. The passenger side valve cover has a hose leaving the value cover and routed under the truck as it smokes pretty bad after the truck warms up but htinking the smoking is related to the PCV system being incorrectly configured?

1. Shouldn't the hose connected to the PCV valve on the drivers side valve cover be routed up to the nipple on the air cleaner cover?

2. The passenger side valve cover hose looks like it should be connected to the nipple on the base of the carb towards the back to re-introduce crankcase gases back into the motor to be burnt off?

Is the above correct? If not, what is and why would someone have changed it to the present configuration? Thanks!

My 1983 351 Windsor is as follows: Facing the motor with the radiator in front of you:

The PCV valve is on the left side in the back. It has a hose running around to the carb base. On the right side, there is the oil filler cap near the front with a hose bib on it. this hose is connected to the air cleaner, and has a small filter on it there.

Hope this helps.

Yeah helps just wonder if that would be one of the differences between a 351W and a 302. The PCV controls the rate of crankcase emissions being re-introduced into the intake for combustion. Question is should the hose from the PCV be routed to the carb base or airfilter and does that depend on anything?

I am going to try flipping a the hoses around tonight - as it stands it seems to be puching more fume out the hose vented to nothing than the PCV valve connected to the carb as it should.

The 302 and the 351 Windsor are almost identical. The PCV set up is the same.
