tanny fluid

would the 5 speed in my 87 ranger take the auto fluid or regular gear oil(which is what the owners manual says)

It depends on which trans you have. The Mazda trans takes ATF, while the Mitsubishi trans takes gear oil. Look under the truck to see what unit you have. There is usually a label on the driver's side of the trans that has a code on it....

Mazda says something like E87A-FE and has a 1 piece housing
Mitsubishi says something like FM146 and has a detachable bell housing
