Expedition Air Intake question...
I have read several posts that state changing out the air intake system to get better gas mileage. I have seen K&N systems for around $200, my question is I have found several other systems on Ebay for $35, does anyone know if there really is a difference in makers of these systems. I've heard of people making them out of PVC, not that I would do that, but they work just as well. What is the difference, and what type of gas mileage would I get by doing this. Granted I added a flowmaster to help in the air flow. Any imput would be appreciated.

I have seen the same products on ebay, and i have a K&N. Honestly i think the main difference is the quality of materials. K&N has been making filters forever, so i trust they use the best materials, no air can seep in from anywhere but through the high quality filter they provide. I bet the ebay cheapos might work just as well, but i dont trust they would hold up as long, and keep dirt out like the K&N model.
People can argue with this, but i had a K&N filter on my Honda CRX, my Accord, my F-150, and now my Expedition, and i dont really see any mpg difference, maybe .5 mpg, but thats it. They do look great, sound great, and you never have to buy an air filter again.

I don't think you will see much difference if you just replace the air filter with a K&N. I replaced mine with a K&N FIPK. What this does is open the system up so it breathes better. I do see about 1 mpg better in the city and about 2 mpg better on the hwy. I figure it will take about 14,000 miles to pay for the mod so I feel it was worth it.
