Wife hopped in 95 F-150 to goto Walmart and said brakes were mushy when she turned around and came back. Crawled underneath in the rain and sure enought there is brake fluid that looks like it is from metal line where it attaches to rubber hose above back axle. But BOTH side of master cylinder are DRY????? what is going on??? truck has like 57,000 and isnt too rusty
Check the front brake lines as well. My drivers side front went without warning, luckily while I was sitting in traffic. They were all pretty rusty so I changed all the front lines. The rears look like they are ready to go as well, they're are next on my list.
The lines rust in a weird way, mine have wicked rusty spots and other spots look like it's brand new. It's just how it's been weathered over the years. Mileage has little to do with rust, the truck is still almost 10 years old. You'll have to replace the lines which are broken, bleed the brakes, and they should be fine once the leaks have been fixed. Inspect all of the lines, and any areas of concern should also be repaired at the same time. The rubber lines can be purchased at the local parts store, and the metal hardlines are probably going to need to be custom made by you or your mechanic. They don't really have pre-made metal lines, so you buy lenths of it at the store, bend them appropriately, flare em' and connect them. Not too bad of a repair.
My rear line let go backing down a boat ramp. Lucky for me the front kept me out of the water. Drove home pulling a 20ft boat with just my front brakes. Any rust on that you should replace it now. If you seam fluid you should do very soon.
