i really need someone to school me on the draw backs of this product ... i was told that they go out verry fast but i really cant afford an electronic ignition yet and i havent upgraded cam yet (those are the only upgrades left for my motor .... its got eb 4 bb preformer intake 750 eb carb 4v and flowtech headers and new accel coil ... i need to either adjust repair my points (no clue how ... never played with them) or put a points elminator on ... to me it seems like a good idea untill i can put the cam and electronic ignition in .... i also need recomendations for those parts .... actuall part numbers and prices if people know them ... thanks for the help
Pertonix is a good, EZ way to upgrade your points ignition, takes about 1/2 hour.... and at $50 to $75 in price... not a bank breaker either... now when you upgrade further.. the DUI dizzy is the way to go... but at $375... it's pricey.....
Just get a Pertronix unit in there, you won't need to upgrade further later on, unless you rebuild the motor to where it'll be turnin 8,000 rpms. The pertronix unit with a good rebuilt stock dist is good for 7,000 rpms, which is really more than most FE's will be turned anyway. I've used one on a 7500 rpm small block with good results.
