Im with Kermit. Whenever I have a useless electronic device go out on me I start with small calibers, working my way up, until my brother comes with his 45-70. In the end all thats left is a pile of pieces to scoop up and throw in the trash.

If your city trash wont take it. dismantle it and put parts in each week or take them to the local 7-11 after dark and dump them in their dumpster

the reason they won't take it is pollution problems, there are some materials in it that can cause contamination, same story for computers and tv's. Trouble is, it is hard to get rid of, since they don't give any easy way to do it. If you haul scrap at all, take it to the junkyard, some will take them, or put it in an old vehicle and they can crush it and recycle it that way. There again, some will give you trouble on that, but most don't worry about it, it depends upon how hard they have been beat on by EPA regs.

I agree. If you don't have any use for the innards of the thing and don't want to bother parting it into the trash, see if there is a free classified in a local paper or a bulletin board at the local grocery and offer it up for free.

The louvered or perforated flat sheet metal from the inner and outer cases is always useful too.

You know that 'disposable' batteries aren't supposed to go in the trash either. What a joke.

I find that apartment complex dumpsters are wonderful solutions for problems like this.

I may have missed something , but, Microwaves store energy and when taken apart can actually shock you enough to kill you. Please consider this when disposing-- some of this advice doesn't take that into consideration...

Here's how to get rid of ANYTHING.

Find a local strip plaza, and drive around behind it. It even works during the day, just make sure you don't dawdle, and keep an eye out for the sheriff. Park next to a dumpster, hop out, toss it, and drive away.

Works best with an accomplice.

That is the one I came across the other day. You can take a microwave oven apart without getting killed as long as you unplug it first.
