my '95 300 just doesnt pull up hills, ive got the 3.08 gears and i dont pull any trailers or anything. I cut one of the cats off and put a glasspack on it, but thats all for mods. my other cat kinda makes a repetitive clinking sound, could this mean its clogged, and if so could this be the problem for it not pullin me up hills with out losen 10 mph?
My 93 has the 3.08. these are not really good gears for hills. At 60 the rpms are at the or below the sweet spot in the Torque band. And when you go up hills unless you downshift, you're gonna lose speed.
As far as the cats are concerned, get a high performance (high flow) from summit and run the rest of what you have now. I'd think from the clinking that some part of it melted and then broke away.
If you're so inclined, get a set of 3.55 gears. your performance will go up some and your gas mileage won't drop appreciably.
I have a 95 4.9 5sp xlt that seems to not have the same power my 94 has. Both are identical but the 94 runs smoother and has power past the 2000 rpm mark. I think I am in need of a timing gear/cam change, I dont know. It just baffles me how the 94 runs so much smoother. I have no pressure build up in the exhaust system and everything between the two looks the same. Is it possible Ford altered the valve train? I am reaching at straws here...
