My 2004 f150 stx seems to atract flying rocks. I have atleast 6 small chips and one crack that runs down the passengers side windshield. Has anyone replaced windshield and if so, how much did it cost$$$?? I am not going to replace it until they finish construction on freeway, which won't be for awhile.
I know this won't help you much, but it may be a little more valuable for some others here. I went to the local auto glass place here in town to have a chip fixed in my VW. I had heard that it is usually only $25-$30...no big deal. When I got there, the receptionist told me that almost all insurance companies cover rock chips without affecting your premium.
I guess it they would rather eat a chip repair than cover a whole car if somebody gets in a wreck because of an obscured winshield.
Anyway, hope the new winshield doesn't take you for too much.
I agree, I think Ford installed some sort of rock magnet in the windshield. I have had one chip repaired, and have at least one more fresh one. I havent had to price a windshield yet though.
I know, I had mine 10 days and had to have it replaced. As for cost, I am not sure what it was as I have $0 deductible on my comprehensive. Your insurance may have a zero deductible for glass breakage even though you have a listed deductible. Also, they have never raised my rates due to windshield breakage, and I have had to have at least 10 since 78.
Usually the insurance co. will fix the crack if it isnt too large yet at no cost to you. If it does need to be replaced all together you may be subject to your ded. It all depends on the company that you are with. Call you agent and check on it.
Thanks for the info. I found a local glass shop that will replace it for $155.00 including installation. The only thing is that it does not have the f150 inblem in the middle (not that anyone can see it).
I didn't even know that was there until I let my wife drive. I saw it from the passenger seat and mentioned it to her. I think that was the last time I saw it.
A rock cracked mine in the 2nd week of owning it. Had a shop fix it for $60 CDN. It made some of the small cracks dissapear, but not all. It just stops the cracks from spreading.
It was up near the F150 badge, so it is not very noticable unless you look for it. Had it been anywhere else I would want to replace it.
I know how you feel, I have had several rocks hit my truck and it seems like they are attracted to our trucks.
2 rock chips in one week! Bad news, but I just had my windsheild replaced. Insurance will usually fix the chips for free unless they are larger than a quarter in size, or in the drivers line of vision. In these cases, insurance would rather have you replace the window.
My window didn't attract a rock but my passenger door did. From a little boy who looked like he was no older than 6 years old. Driving down the street in a good neighborhood I see two little boys, I'm going slow because school has just let out, just as I pass he pauses, lifts his hand, then I can't see anything but I hear a thunk. Now theres a small chip of paint missing. Oh well, what was I to do, run the little burger over? Follow him home and slap his mama around? No I just went on home and took it out on my husband.
Stxtexas, Be Careful Of That Price You Got Quoted. I Am In The Business And Although You Are In A Different Part Of The Country That Seems A Little Too Cheap, If You Know What I Mean. If It Doesn't Have The F-150 Emblem Than It Is Not A Carlite(ford Oem ) Glass.which Is Fine In Some Cases, Just Make Sure It Is Not Some Cheap Piece Of Jap Junk That Is Out There.
What The Other Folks Posted About Ins. And Deductibles Is Correct.
Unless You Paid For The Truck You Are Most Likely Required By The State To Carry Comprenhensive Coverage Which Is What Pays For Glass. Check With Your Ins. Co.
Bottom Line Is You Just Paid More That 25,000 For A Vehicle. Don't Skimp On Something As Important As The Windshield.
And Yes It Is More Than Just A Piece Of Glass. The Way Vehicles Are Designed Today The Windshield Plays A Major Part If Roof Support In The Event Of A Rollover. Thats Why You Also Want It Installed Properly.

The Windsheild Is Glued Into The Vehicle With A Urethane Adhesive. Although It Does Not Make Sense To Me, In A Rollover The W/s Must Stay Attached To The Body For The Roof To Maintain Its Intended Strength. ( No Is Doesn't Make Sense For A Piece Of Glass To Support Steel But That's How The Make Them) Notice Some Cars With These Huge Windshield That Have Multiple Contours To Them. It's Kinda Like Like The Squeezing The Eggshell Theory.
Also The Pass Airbag Uses The W/s As A Backstop When It Deploys(look At A W/s After An Airbag Deployment) And If The W/s Doesn't Remain In The Vehicle When The Bag Hits It When You Hit The Bag It's Usless.
Thats Why Whenever You Have A W/s Installed You Should Be Advised Of A Cure Time For The Urethane. It Depends On What Brand The Installer Uses, Some Cure In An Hour Some 4hrs. But There Is't One Out There That Is Recommended To Drive Away Immediately.
