AOD rebuild options

Hi All,
Since I'm beating the AOD topic to death, I figured I would get some opinions regarding the options in front of me. I'm putting an AOD into my F150 4x4, 302, currently have a C6. I often times fill my truck with tools, building supplies, furniture etc, but rarely pull a trailer. I would also like the OD. The installation details have been smoothed out so it comes down to what options I want in the transmission.

The choice is whether or not to have a heavy duty rebuild done, or a regular(whatever that is). Heavy duty seems to imply the parts will last longer take more abuse, etc. I think they also said something about wide range gearing, but I don't really need that. I would rather have the HD rebuild but the difference is about $400.

I guess I'm asking, why would I want the HD rebuild?

Thanks

I have heard the AOD trannie can be upgraded during a rebuild with excellent results, I quess this is the 'HD' option you mention. The only thing I really don't like about my '90 AOD is the shifter will not let you select 2nd gear, it only allows P, R, N, OD, D, & 1. I sometimes like to start in second gear, or keep it in second gear on hills, but I can't do this with this trannie. Some speed shops offer the AOD built with a second gear selection available on the shifter. ...Terry

Overkill-F1, I agree about the fault of the AOD of not being able to start in second gear. But, you can still keep it in second gear on the hills. If you wait for it to shift into second (or even low rpm drive) and then pull the shifter down into the first gear slot, it will then remain in second gear and not shift into drive. But of course if you slow down too much while the gear shift lever is in this position it will downshift into first.
