Smile Help! oil level

I changed my oil/filter for the first time on my used 02 PSD 40,000 miles and as soon as I drove it, I noticed a surge when my foot was lightly on the pedal, between 1200-1600 RPM. I checked the dipstick, oil level was right in middle of MIN/MAX marks. I had put in approx 12 quarts once drained. I Changed fuel filter, cleaned screen and problem continued. I drained a little oil, now the level reads right at the MIN mark and problem seems to have stopped. Does this sound normal? Where does everyone else keep oil levels? Is there something else I should be looking at.....? Thanks to everyone that helps!

i keep mine towards the top of the "operating range". i have had my truck run a little strange right after changing the oil, rough idle, surge at low rpms. it has always gone away pretty quickly.i think it has to do with a little air getting into the oil system(which operates the fuel injection system) and it just takes a little while to get it all out

I'm Not Sure If I'm Missing Something Here But...

My 2002 7.3L manual says a total of 15 qts. Two of which goes in the filter.
