On a trip to FL, I was sleeping and when I woke up, my co-driver was cruising at 85.

Not sure about a 300, but I've pegged the 85 mph speedo in my 5.0/AOD equiped E-150 conversion van a few times (not advised! ).

Depending on what you have there, if you bought it used and it was used as a company vehicle or rental, it might have some type of governor on it.

I drove an F 250 UHaul years back and it was governed at about 65. You can feel a governor on in the throttle and see the set up under the hood.

My 85 E150 with the 4 speed and OD will run past 85 easily if not quickly.

I have 3.50s.

If you have a 1:1 trans and 4.10's or better, maybe you are redlining....

Had a '96 E150, 351, 3.88 rear gear. Would hit the fuel cutoff at 110. It was a conversion van and the raised roof acted as kind of a "wing" to keep the front end on the ground at that speed....lol. My '00 E250 will do the same thing with the 5.4 and 3.88 gears. Not quickly, but it'll get there!

Good luck!

Hal

My 90 and 96 both with 300's and C6's could do 85.
My 03 with a 5.4 cuts out at 92.
All are E350's

My '92 E150 with a 351, never had a cut-off, it would flat out fly... I actually caught a Z28 (1996 model), he though I was the 5-oh, and pulled over.. It was fun, scary as hell but fun.

My old 89 E-150 (351) would flat-out get it. Never knew just how fast it could go but it always kept up with the best of them on the Chicago expressways. My theory was that I wasn't making any money between here & there. Tickets got expensive along with the insurance companies punishing me for being a menace to society & all, so now I've slowed down considerably & the money that used to go to fines & high risk insurance is going toward the kid's college costs.

Race Van

My '92 E150 with 300 & E4OD cruises nice and comfy at 90.
It will pull more but I'm no longer 18 and immortal.

Check your timing, air filter, and throttle linkage.

My 78 E250 4x4 will do 85+, how much more is unknown (speedo only goes to 85). Driving home the other night I got there much faster than I had in the past.

It has a new carb/intake/cam/headers installed. A world of difference now.

I've got an '86 E-250 superduty with a 351W that, with all emissions, A/C hardware and brackets removed, would go fast enough to make the 85 MPH speedo go all the way around to zero. Using the distance between the numbers (55, 65, 75, etc), and assuming the tension/pressure on the speedo cable remains the same, a speed of 105 is not impossible. Still had some pedal left but thought the vehicle was probably not meant to go that fast and backed off. I've since changed intake to Edelbrock 2181, Edelbrock 1406 carb, headers, MSD ignition and dual exhaust. Have to change wheels 'cause of having driven on two different flats (can't get them balanced right). Gotta get a real speedometer but am rebelling at paying $160.00 or more for a speedometer.
