Has anyone else ever had this problem, the rear passenger side door child safety lock keeps putting itself in the lock position. I had been blaming my 10 year old son because everytime he goes to get out he can't and the safety lock is engaged, he swears he is not locking it and I believe him, I think, but the thing keeps going to the lock position which is "up" which is what is strange, how it moves itself up I have no idea. I guess I should just jam something in there so it can't move. I am just curious if anyone else has experienced this problem. Brian
Had this same problem a while back, some kind soul on the forum passed along the cure. Basically, the latch mechanism rubs against the child lock linkage, and eventually turns it on. If you pull off the plastic cover by the switch for the child lock, (it comes off pretty easy just with fingernails) you can see the linkage inside the door. Spray some WD-40 or similar lubricant in on the linkage, and work the latch a few times. I did this about 6 months ago, and it has been fine since. I'm sure I'll have to repeat this sometime, but so far so good.
I had the very same problem. I took it in to Ford and the replaced the rear locks at the cost. My kids were still young so I had been using them. I flip them back this last summer and sure enough I had the same problem. I them replaced again at my cost this time and have not had a problem with them since. I think the cost was about $100.00 when all was said and done.
I was the kind soul that figured this out. I sprayed mine well over a year ago. I still have no problems with the child locks on my doors. This solution does work. It will save you $100. Thke the $$$$$ you just saved and go out to dinner and a movie or better yet buy some toys for your Expy!
Unbelievable. I've owned my 2000 EB expedition for
over 3 years now (got it used) and have lived with this
problem the entire time (talk about blaming the kids!).
The dealer said the functional equivalent of "you're crazy"
and the problem did not exist.
I just finished the WD-40 trick (Dura-lub actually, but
I think it will pass :-) ...
