what year???
in the 40's - early 70's....willis
then jeep made jeep
now crystler make jeep
P.S. dont buy a jeep unless its older than early 80's cuz they are crap.
Actually, AMC Made/Owned Jeep from the early seventies through 1984 or 85 when Chrysler bought them. Modern ones are marketed by DMC.
And there is nothing wrong with the older ones if they have been maintained and you understand their limitations. I have taken an old '61 CJ-3b places most other vehicles would never go. It won't get you there fast ot anything....but it will get there.
I wouldn't say that anything newer than '80 is a bad jeep! 3 years ago I had an '89 Cherokee that never broke down on me. My sister had a ford, and it was never on the road!
I believe early jeeps had chrysler engines in them way before they bought them out. Can anyone back this???They are all manufactured in Toledo, Ohio. Some of the newer jeeps have what I believe it is called a cam speed sensor that goes out and leaves you high and dry, it is bascially a $40 part that cost 300 to fix and leaves you stranded. That is the only thing bad I have heard about the newer ones. My ex-father in-law had a late 90's model cherokee and loved it/no problems. I have only had one jeep , a 47 or 48 ****** (can't remember --to along ago) dangerous over 30 mile per hour, but alot of fun otherwise.
Bantam
(Ford)
****** Overland
Kaiser
AMC
Chrysler
Daimler-Chrysler
There's no reason to pick on Jeep, regardless of era. Jeep has kept true to a particular standard of off-road prowess since the beginning, and has really provided "the" off-road standard other manufacturers have had to compete with. Without the CJ, YJ, and TJ Wranglers holding up the banner for small, short-wheelbase, solid axle, etc. etc. trail rigs, there probably wouldn't be much of an off-road vehicle niche.
Of course, I'd sure love to head down to the local Ford dealer and test drive some new-manufacture '77/'05 Broncos! :-) Hmmm...5.4L, ZF 6-speed, a short wheelbase version of the new Superduty suspension. Make sure it has lockers in the axles and a lift-off roof! Yup, that's what I want! That could be a Jeep spanker, for sure!
Somehow I don't really see the Escape as even getting to the trail head to ride with a TJ Rubicon!
When I went to Viet Nam, the Jeep I was driving said Jeep on it, but was made by Ford. It was mfg. in 1947, according to the data plate on it. They were "assembled" before we put them on the ship for transport. They had been stored "somewhere" since that time, as they were brand new.

Don't know how jeeps are on the rest of the planet, but out west most of us with jeeps have so many "other" parts in them they're not even close to what the factory gave us when they were new. My 94 Wrangler has a Ford Dana 60 rear axle (with Dodge/Ford brakes), a front axle that is a combination of Jeep (old J-10), Ford, International Harvester parts. Transmission is from an older jeep (T176) with, yep - another Ford part for the transfer case (NP205)

I luv Jeeps. But if you look on the side of them on the body where it says Jeep. You will find that it truely says Joop with a sticker over it saying Jeep. This is on the TJ's and YJ's. FYI They are still in a class of their own.
