[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Aug-02 AT 02:31 AM (EST)]People, I've been reading and taking lots of notes - seems this 4R44E auto. is, or could be, by far (maybe the only) "Achilles-heel" of my `99 3.0 4X4 (8.8 w\ 4.10 gearing). What to do first? Better than stock cooler? Shift-Kit? Chip? Another BG flush, w\cleaner and conditioner ? Or "full-fledged" frequent fluid & filter changes? I'm tempted to go for ALL of the above, but again, where should I start? I'll have a nervous (more exactly - financial!) breakdown if my trans breaks !!! In order of least expense, most bang for the buck, which way would you guys go? Thank you gentlemen (and any ladies that might desire to sing along!) PS have 62,000 miles -about half highway and half heavier than healthy loads in the mountains and off-road. Serviced IMPROPERLY (by way of a "Free" coupon from the Carmax dealer I bought from - I know, I know - I should've know better!) w\ 7 qts of Dexron at 27,510. Got it flushed out as soon as I realized what had happened, that is, as soon as it started acting up, about 29 - 29,500. The only saving grace I may have is it was winter (cool opt. temps) and I did virtually no severe service during this 3-4 week period. Hope the $2,000.00 under Blue-Book I paid isn't erased by the free coupon - no problems noticed - I just can NOT afford any (trans. probs.) right now. Thanks again and in advance . . .
