Question Throttle cable mod help

I read somewhere on another post about a throttle cable mod for the Ranger truck, and after much searching cant find anything specific on it. Can anyone help me out with figuring out what this is?? I would love to add more throttle to my 2004. Thanx

Have a friend step on the gas pedal all they way to the floor (pedal to the metal). Remove the intake hose from the throttle body and see if the throttle plate opens all the way. If it does, then there is no need for any modding. If it doesn't, get on your back and look at where the throttle cable goes thru the end of the gas pedal. Hold the end of the cable, then lift the gas pedal up to the vertical stop. You will now notice an inch or so of slack between the green cable spacer and the end of the gas pedal that pulls on it. You need to put plastic zip tip ties or a hose clamp around the cable to take up the space between the spacer and the pedal. The mod brings the pedal up to where it should be so you don't have to mash the pedal into the carpet to go WOT.

Thanks for the reply kontai69. About 5 minutes after I posted this I stumbled across another thread on it. I looked for half an hour for it, posted a question of my own then found the old one DUH!!!!!

Thumbs up Excellent tip. Thank you!

I have a 94 exploder and the throttle cable is stretched. This tip works great. I love this forum. Since I bought the truck a week ago it has helped me solve two issues.

Are these cables known to commonly stretch on Fords?

Cables wear thin, period, on any model. If your cable is stretched, the "mod" will only break that cable sooner than later. Several who have tried that "mod" broke their cable shortly thereafter, if I recall correctly.

Mine was to long when I bought the truck new. You only want to add just enough to take up the slack, the spring should still function when it's floored, if it doesn't you will break the cable.
