I am looking for a wire harness that runs from the generator to the regulator on my 64 f-100. I am in the process of restoring it, and when i went to start it up, the wires were smoking and burnt up. I haven't been able to find a replacement harness, does anyone know where I might be able to get one??
Mr. Mustang makes replacement harnesses 64 thru 67 F100's. Replaced wiring on 65, except for the dash harness, have not been able to find anyone who makes repro's. Was please with quality, same wiring codes and connectors. If intend to add accessories may want to look into after market kits.
Have a Mr. Mustang price list and they referred to a ' feed to generator wiring, 8 cyl. for $41. Headliight $86, Tailight $95. They also have gas sending unit wire, and dome light. If considering, suggest purchasing 1 to determine if satisfied with replication and quality. Info tele # (937) 275-7439. Order line # 1 (800) 543-9195.
There are only 3 wires in the generator to regulator wiring harness, so you should be able to make one up yourself. The original wires, sizes, colors, terminations, are:
#8 wire, Yellow with Black stripe, Generator "A" to Regulator "A"
#8 wire, Black with Red stripe, Generator "G" to Regulator Ground
#16 wire, White, Generator "F" to Regulator "F"
If you can't find wires with the original colors, you can find solid color and put colored tape at each end to represent the stripe, i.e., Yellow wire with Black tape, Black wire with Red tape.
This would also be an excellent time for you to change out a 1 wire alternator. If you do that, all you would have to do is run a #8 wire from the alternator to the "B" terminal on the regulator to which the Black with Yellow stripe wire going to the junction box on the firewall & thence under the dash, is connected.
