On the way home from running errands yesterday, I see this sweet looking 69-70 Mustang Fastback sporting full cage in the rear view. Of course I slow down enough to have him get in the lane next to me as well pull to a light. My 16 year old in the back seat is like a puppy with the windows down, and after having to shout at the guy behind the wheel as the 3" Warlocks are bursting with every lope of the cam, he gets a "it's got a 427" out of the guy. Well naturally I'm thinking it's time to throw down with this guy in the wife's Aval*#($. So as the light turns green and he spools up the monster to around 3500 stall and is gone in a flash, all we can see is the serious pro-street set up under the car comfortably locating the 33" sportmans.... Of course I had to mention that the 'Ol 65 will run like that when completed (yes, I provide the comedy relief in the family). Moral is, it's just so nice to have a boy who will chuckle at a ricer at the light, knowing that those really are embarasing as Hot Rods.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! (With fingers in ears) Lalalalalalala I am not listening to you Lalalalalalala!

I hear ya , Bro, just HAD to stick that in I used to get a kick out of the Brand X crowd when I had the 427 stroker in my old 67 Stang, the puzzled looks were priceless when they saw the FE under the hood Then would come the old "Ford never had a 427" reply from them Then I'd have to give them a history lesson on just "who" had a 427 first
Had one learn tonite, when he came flying up in the left lane behind the 331 stroker-six-pack equipped 89 Ranger in his Chebby truck. He thought he was going to actually "pass" this P.O.S. Ranger Hoggin' the left lane ( I saw him coming LOL ) Biy was he Surprised when the Ranger walked off and left him. And not just once, it took him three trys to give up
How do you know it had an FE? Could have also been a (God forbid) brand X 427
We would all assume that a guy that take real pride in his stang would have a ford under the hood...
And Mike, My hats off to you Bud...Raising you boy right!!!
There a Kid that live's around where I do, that has an Airshifter in his Ricer..
and if I can ever find him..I'll put a 44 mag shot in the trans...Ya should hear that Airshifter at 5am when he come's past my house, It sounds like a Freakin Whistling Pete!!!
Pontiac..........most kids back then did not even KNOW there was a Pontiac
That is except a couple friends that had them, but you talk about being an "individualist" . I was bad enough with a big block, 2x4, 4 spd pickup truck.....
I love the look of multiple carbs in a truck. It definately says that the owner is a non-conformist! If I weren't planning on a sequential EFI on the 511 some day, I would be looking for a tunnel wedge for sure.
On a Pontiac site I read that the head bolt pattern for the FE and the Pontiac is very close to identical. I will have to look at the two to see if this is true. I currently have a 428 in a 64 GTO, and several other Pontiac 400-455 and OHC six motors and cars.
Like FE motors, Pontiacs all share same basic block dimensions, from 326 up to 455. No "big" or "small" blocks.
The general story is that Pontiac copied the Ford tunnel port heads and came up with their Ram Air V program motors in 69-70. Not too successfull, but had some real potential.
I never knew why but I was drawn to that 65 F100 with the FE motor. It must be the closest thing to a Pontiac pickup!
