A buddy of mine rebuilt his 4 barrel Holley carb. After it was done he bolted it on and it won't idle and has no throttle response. I don't know many more details he brought it up and i said i would post it for him. Any7 info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Well, did he adjust the floats correctly? How about the idle mix screws? Also the choke?

Well he has been at this stuff for a lot of years i just asumed that he would've checked all of that. But i will talk to him about it. Thank you for the input.
I rebuilt my Holley 3 weeks ago, and after I did, I had nothing but troubles. It was a Holley 4180 and now it's a dump decoration. It leaked fuel out of the accelerator pump, metering blocks, and fuel rail. I dumped it for an Edelbrock 1406 and I've never been happier with the performance.
Have your friend get an Edelbrock and dump the Holley, he'll be happier than ever.
holley 4180 was a bad carb from the get go. it was a disposable carb. it had a bad primary booster design that made it prone to freeze ups on cold mornings during decel, or any time the air temp was under 45' and vacuum hit 27-28" of mercury. as for all holleys being bad, i run a 80457 on my 514 f250 i regullary get 10+mpg. i had a 1406 on it, and never got over 6mpg. the tuning on the edelbrock-carter carbs is easy, but very limited. the secondaries have a poor metering design that real needed to be updated in the 70's. but holleys(4150-4160) have the same issues. they are a pain in the *** to get set up. but once it gets down right, nothing will blow the doors off like a holley. but its alot of work. in 8k miles, i have yet to get mine just right. still a bit rich, but the bogs are gone both empty and towing. if simplicity is what you like, go with an edelbrock. if you like to play, than get a holley.
