If I'm driving along at 55 or 60 MPH with the TC all locked and happy and then let off the throttle, the tach will drop to 1200 or 1000 RPM or something like that - basically coasting along with the TC unlocked as if I weren't in the TH mode.
If I continue to coast down until I reach about 45 MPH the TC will then relock and the truck will start slowing down more. It will keep the TC locked all the way down through the gears to first.
Now let's say that I'm driving along at 45 MPH without the TH mode engaged and am getting ready to head down the hill near my house. If I press the TH mode button at that time while coasting down the hill, usually it will lock the TC and hold my speed. Sometimes though it may take a press on the brakes. I'm not sure why the conditions vary from time to time.
At slower speeds, say 30 MPH or less, if I press the TH button it will definitely lock the TC and help slow me down. I do this all the time as I'm coasting up to stop lights.
I do that too daryl....
save those warped rotors since they only last about 12K miles anyway
Mine acts like Daryl's ....
above 50 or so... if I activate tow/haul, it coasts until some speed....
but usually I've already tapped the brakes to start the engine braking...
and it WILL pull it down faster with ever increasing pressure on the brake...
had a LOADED X with small trailer that didn't have brakes....
some doofus pulled out in front of me...
I punched the tow/haul as I'm hitting the brakes pretty hard - ALMOST to panic stop level...
and the downshifts were REAL quick... like , bam, bam. bam. bam.....
stopped eveything well enough that I was able to
let go of the steering wheel ,
give him some hand signals,
stand on the horn,
roll down the window,
and discuss his heritage safely !!!

It will change a bit if you get the Dec '03 flash. The flash included changes for California Emissions and also modified the funtionality of the TH mode. It is supposed to be less aggressive on the downshifts and it also lets you coast when at highway speeds.
The latter was, I suspect, designed to help improve fuel mileage.

New '05 comes with Dec. '03 flash or something else? I would prefer to have Torqshift locked in 5 4 3 2 1 almost until a dead stop.

OK now I got it, a bit slow I am....mine does the same.
I am considering buying an F-350 Crew with 6.0l and Torqushift. I know that Torqushift comes with the tow/haul mode engine brake function. I was wandering if anybody can give personal experience if this breaking is really efficient on long downhill grades (7-8%) with heavy trailer (more than 12k).
Thank you

I had 2,000 miles on the trk, towing my 35' fifthwheel, & lost all trailer brakes in South Eastern Oregon. We had a 10 mile 6% downgrade & we did the whole 10 miles without hitting the trk brakes @ 48 mph max. If you ask me you can't beat it!!
Would someone explain what a 6% grade relates to. Would that be 6 degrees slope? Thanks, Rick
6% slope is simply 6 feet of vertical rise, or fall, in a 100 foot linear (horizontal) line. A 10% slope is 10 feet of rise, or fall, in a 100 foot line in distance, etc. Keep it simple and even I can understand it.
I just bought an 05 F350 4x4 6.0 Crew. Getting ready to try her out on a couple of hills, towing my travel trailor (6000 lbs) Cant wait to see how the tow haul works!!!

At 6k you will not even know anything is back there......all you will have is a big smile.
Check your mirrors often; only way you will know it is there

All I can say is Hitch'er up & go ! You're gonna love this Torque Shift for towing!
My towing rig: '88 F350 4X2 crew cab dually w/ 7.3 IDI, C6 tranny, and 3.53 rear gear. I have towed my 40' Chaparral race trailer all over Calif, Arizona, and Nevada. I weighed once in Bakersfield and received a 21,450 LB weight slip. Yep, 21,450 total weight, i.e. truck & trailer.
How much does/did your chaparral weigh alone? I'm looking at a 44' pouch-side and the seller doesn't know the weight.

HUH??? What it weigh? Well it weighs approx 7400 lbs.
I'll qualify the approx 7400 weight with the Chap has 3 axles, over size brakes on all three axles, and a Onan 6.5 gen set, and 18 gal gas tank for the Onan.
I suggest checking the mfg's sticker as some do have max weight listed there on. Also check the registration paper that is carried in the trailer as often they also list the trlr weight. Or call the mfg and or builder as a last resort.
Enjoy which ever or what ever you end up with. hotrodracer

Hey Milan, We design an exhaust brake for your rig with that has works really well for stopping those big loads. If you would like any information on the kit feel free to ask me.
I had 13K on my trailer behind my 06 F250 & tow haul works good. Its better than manually down shifting or using up my brakes. I drive truck with out a jake brake & go down 5-7% grades every night with 60 to 80 thousand pounds. Its comes down to brake management & speed. Don't try to run faster than you feel comfortable when pulling lots of weight. Also use the proper braking technique & not riding them for long periods of time. I would agree that an engine brake would be nice but I've learned on a truck that doesn't have one. I've now owned 2 6.0's with the torqushift trans & I feel it does the job that ford designed it for. If I didn't like it I wouldn't have a second auto but the 6sp. I really love my 2006 F350 w/ 4.30 towboss package. My $.02
