New Ranger Owner
I just bought a 97 Ranger XLT last week. I picked the ranger after doing a lot of research on compact trucks.I didn't like the way the GM's were built, the Nissans were too pricey and we don't have a Toyota dealer in the immediate area, so a Ford/Mazda it was. It is a reg cab in dark metallic red wuth the gold package (whatever that entails) with 82,000 km on it and absolutely no rust , the underside looks like it came off the lot a few months ago. It has the 3.0 V6, automatic, and a color matched fiberglass tonneau cover. The interior is immaculate. I bought it mainly for driving to work and it should work well for that, as it got 30 mpg (imp) on the trip back home from Calgary, Alta. travelling 120 km/hr (about75 mph). so far I am very pleased with it. I stumbled across this forum doing a google search and wow, what a wealth of information. I do as much maintenance and as many repairs as possible myself on my vehicles so I think I will be using this site quite a bit. Looking forward to chatting with many of you.

As AG4.0 mentioned this is the place for all your Ranger dreams and nightmares depending on your situation.
I have a 1996 Mazda B3000 (3.0 liter) Extra cab, 4x2 - with 80400 miles and I have never had any real issues (knock on wood). Here are some performance modification I've made you may want to think about for your truck. I didn't include the crazy loud stereo install I did but trust me it's LOUD.
Performance Modifications:
Flex-a-Lite electric fan
Taylor spark plug wires
Diablo chip – Purchased from Motor Haven too.
B&M - transmission cooler
PML - large capacity transmission pan
Amsoil installed in engine & transmission:
(Installed @ 12K miles)
(Transmission @ 25K miles)
Energey Suspension - sway bar bushings (front & rear)
Bilstein shocks
Street Smart - Cold air intake system
Headers back complete exhuast replacement to 2 1/2" pipe with:
(40 Series Flow Master)
(Single high flow cat)
(3" crome tip pointed strait back)
Future Engine modifications:
JBA headers
Jacobs - DIS Pak ignition system
Good Luck with your new Ranger.
