Hey guys, i was just wondering if anyone has ever had an older lightning, i found a 1995 that I liked. I like the old body style, but what were the engine specs on these older lightnings. Any help would be appreciated.
fellas id like some opinions, a good friend of mine has a 95'ford lightning which his cousin bought new originally, when new he put 6,000 miles and got whipped the first time he raced a LT1 camaro! he took ti back to the dealer and cleared his savings account on performance mods;the did so much work till they removed the front clip off the truck! they replaced the GT-40 heads, with trick flows, and head stud kit, replaced the shorty headers with competion headers and had the hedders sent to california and coated so thed reatain color and not rust, ported/polihed intake manifolds, undrdrive pulley kit , 65lb injectors ,3inch free flow exhaust, flowmasters, electric fans , upgraded computer, and mass air, k&N filter, roller cam and rockers, and then some, the E4OD trans was fitted with shift kit, special lockup stall converter, upgraded programing boost controller and S trim vortech supercharger. the truck only has 37k miles on it currently and the builders that did the work along with the dealers dyno'd the truck and properly tuned it delivers 500hp, it currently has a blown head gasket because the electric fan relay wire came off and it ran hot but didnt show any syptoms till 2 weeks later when he and i raced and after wards it started skipping , after a compression test 2 adjacent cylinders were very low this is the 2nd time head gaskets have been put on this truck but i fel it was his fault because he moved the boost retard to 0 and i told him that it needs to be 11/2 -2
hat it can retard timming when the boost gets high, he says it makes the truck shift to hard and it doesnt pull as hard i told him he damage it but only now he listens he made me an offer to sell the truck $7500.00 as it is it s clean pwr windows locks cruise tilt and cd player , hard tanneau cover on the bed, all lightening decals removed new, my question is is the truck worth the price
im sure its a lightening , it still has the lightening seats , 120mph speedo, svt on the tail gate , 17 inch lightening wheels!! and he still has the original headers , rear body color keyed tubular bumper, in a box in the gaurage and also the original exhaust that comes dual out of one side of the truck.and it is the 5.8 ho
Yeah, I would do another compression check and leak down test once the head gaskets are replaced. Those motors are pretty solid though. There are many that run boost and/or spray with well over 100k on the ticker. One inexpensive upgrade you can do to that truck is install an intercooler. I'm running one off of a 99+ Powerstroke Desiel and it has worked out great! There are some pics of the install and finished product in my gallery. An intercooler will allow you to run more timing and let your head gaskets live longer.
