Hello to all, this is my first post.I have enjoyed the post and opinions of all of the well informed members.I receintly bought a 1968 f250.According to the Vin it was equiped with a 390 engine. My question is that on both fenders it has a 428 logo and inside the engine compartment there is an engine id tag saying it is a 428.The tag reads 428 67 3 on the first line. And 7 F E 401 A on the second line. Was this engine an option in 68?Exactly what does this tag tell me being I can't understand it.Thanks to all!
I don't think they came with anything bigger than a 390... but I am no expert on the matter. those 428 emblems... do they look like 390 truck ones with the vertical red bars? or are they like a 1968 fairlane emblem? also post your VIN and we can tell you what the truck was born with. it could just be that someone did a nice conversion with a parts car and left tags on engine and put emblems on it... or it could be special order, I really would like to see the fender emblem though! either way it sounds like a nice truck and welcome to FTE!
Can't say for sure but a friend of mine had a 68 or 69 Ranger that his father bought new and was handed down from 3 or 4 brothers until he got it.The whole family was FOMOCO, His father told me he bought the truck with a 428,3 deuce set-up with a c-6.So I can't say for sure. By the time my bud got the truck it had been put away wet many times.
Dear Dots,
The bars are vertical red (3).
We have digital pictures of the tags, vertical bars and emblem.
The VIN number is F25HKD06794.
I understand that the H stands for a 390, but I really think this may be a special order 428.
Any thoughts?
