03 Explorer Possible problem?

I recently changed one of the heater hoses that was leaking at the water pump. Once i change the hose and put new clamps on the leak stopped. Once i replace thehose, i refilled the system with coolant, then started let it run and added a bit more. Now i notice that the level in the overflow tank never changes, whether is is a cold engine or hot. Is this a sign of a problem? I took the cap off, and the level is at the neck and it bubbles, and the level moves up and down in the neck, sometime spilling out.

thanks

The level should definitely go up with the engine warm. You may have a bad cap, but more likely there's still air in the system after the hose replacement. On an '03 Explorer, isn't the cap on the coolant recovery tank?

My fault. It's a 93 explorer. It won't let me edit the topic of the post even though i'm logged in. What's the best way to remove are from the system. Also is there anyway to tell and make sure the water pump is working for sure?

Bubbles in the filler neck are a good indication of air in the system. Keep doing what you've been doing - start the engine, let the coolant rise to the top of the neck and shut 'er down; add coolant when it drops. You may have to do this 5-6 times.

If you see turbulence/flow in the coolant after the t-stat opens, you know the water pump is working; how WELL it's working is anybody's guess.
