That's not a fun way to start your day. I guess one of the modules did like the power it was getting and was letting you know using the door locks. Hope you got a new battery and everything is good now.
It was in the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis manual, Section One, Description and Operation, PCM Inputs, MAF, Page 66(1-66).
That's two batteries in this 97 and one in a 86 I had that went the same way! I have my Father's old 90 Buick and my 78 Vette both with 13,000 mi. on them. The batteries just go the normal old way
What's IBT stand for? I just poked around in the Perception looking for IBT under GM and Ford but couldn't find it but could have easily missed it depending on what's its used in.
From the 2000 manual, I believe the 2002 3.0 Ranger has this setup but I would have to look to be sure.
Some MAF sensors have integrated bypass technology (IBT) with an integrated intake air temperature (IAT) sensor. The present applications with IBT are: Focus, Escort (4V), 2.0L Contour/Mystique, Cougar, Taurus/Sable, Windstar, Explorer/Mountaineer and E-Series.
Connected the Perception to the Escort to compare signals. Got the same looking waveforms. I get a squarewave from the IAC but the database shows a sawtooth which I've also found on the web elsewhere. I wonder where they get that sawtooth from? An old version of the IAC???
That forum gets a bit slow at times and is right now. There are only a few peolple in that forum that might be able to answer that question. Come to think of it that's really a tough question.
I read a article on the net the California CARB laws stated that shops must have a DSO, Digital Storage O'scope but they've seen them in shops still in the box, never used! They never took the time to learn how to use them. They said that it's easier and faster to diagnose problems with one instead of just a DMM.

I mean that a question is posted and goes unanswered for days and some never get answered. I posted the same question about the MAF snap-rev test and only got one hit but still nobody has ever performed that test.
I'm not sure if all DSOs have a DMM built into it. Some are really cheap like the price of a good DMM. I think a good DMM is better than the built in DMM in my DSO. You need a good DMM to perform that MAF snap-rev test. I did try that test using the DSO and got the same results as with the Fluke 189. The OTC DAT isn't fast enough to catch the peak voltage.
I'll come back and some interesting links to this post.
