Burning oil
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Sep-02 AT 12:44 PM (EST)]As you are driving the truck does it smoke as you accelerate or decelerate ?? Smoking on acceleration is usually a sign of worn rings. If it smokes on deceleration look at the valve seals.

If you can "smell the oil burning" and smoke is not poring from the exhaust, it sounds like you have a external oil leak. Most likely oil is leaking from either the valve covers, or the oil pan and dripping on the exhaust manifold or pipe. Open up the hood and look careful for wet spots. If everything is covered in grime and oil, go to a car wash and degrease/wash the engine. Then drive for a day or two and look again for wet areas.
