It is going better. I am using .024 solid wire and gas. Practicing on thicker stuff, I am fine. It is when I want to weld 2 pieces of sheetmetal together that I have a hard time. I can't seem to get much of a puddle going with out melting through. Even spot welding I just can't seem to get it where I want it.
Oh well. Practice, Practice.
Thanks for all the advice.
Matt

To butt join 2 pieces of thin stock, turn your voltage up and your wire speed down. Make a series of very quick zaps. The split second the arc starts, release the trigger. Practice finding the correct duration for the arc that will give good penetration without burn through. Keep in mind that with thin metal, you have to space your tacks far enough apart to prevent warping. You'll get there, just keep practicing

As a beginner you will get some burn thru. If you can't fill the hole or you're trying to fill existing holds to relocate them get your self several different size pieces of copper. Place the copper strip on the back side of a hole and then fill in the hole with a circular motion till the hole is plugged with weld. The weld will not adhere to the copper and the copper gives you a surface to build up weld material on. Then you might need to grind it down smooth.
