I have a 1987 Ford Ranger 4x4 with a 2.9 V-6 engine. The engine runs fine, but sometimes when I drive the truck,it will start jumping,I Cannot figure out,if it is in the fuel pressure,or if it is in the electrical system of the motor. I have changed the computer, the map sensor, plug wires, spark plugs, rotor button, and the distributor cap.Is there any possible way itcould be the STATOR/PICK-UP COIL in the distributor,if not does anyone have any idea of what could be that could be what is causing it to take spells of jumping,at certain times ? IT dont do it all timme, but it will do it whether it is cold or if the engine is warm. It has a 5-speed manual transmission.
Have you tried the fuel filter? That tends to cause intermittent and random pulsing and I did not see it mentioned among your fixes.
Also try this: put the truck in fist gear and start moving. Drive along without pressing on the accelerator. If the truck starts to jump you may have an air leak between your MAF and the intake. Sometimes the rubber airway cracks with age. Look it over carefully, you can test a potential crack by spraying it with a little engine starting fluid (if idle RPM increases its a leak). If you're frugal you can fix smaller cracks with some high-temp silicone sealant or yes, even duct/electrical tape (yes I did use duct tape to fix a friends Escort).
I would pull the codes and check the fule pressure just to make sure. Make sure you run the KOEO & KOER tests. I'm thinking it's a sensor problem since it runs good cold. It goes into closed loop when it warms up.
