13.5 qts or 15qts of oil

Assume that during the oil change, the last few quarts of the stuff dissapeared, like the socks in the drier. So if it went in and did not come out, it is a fair assumption that they are in the lint trap. If you want to be cool, keep it on the down low!!!!

In my experience, the capacity of the 6.0 is 14 quarts. When I used 15, I was over the line and had idle problems. It was so high with 15 that it didn't register on the dipstick. I am sure that extra quart or two was somewhere in the engine, but it didn't drain out. I always warm the truck before draining and I let it drain for about 20-30 minutes.

All I can do is to restate that Ford put out a service bulletin on checking the oil. It says tc check the oil on a level surface. If the oil mark is above the "Min" mark do not add oil. If I check the oil according to the owner manual,
1. Have engine at normal operating temperature (at least into the
NORMAL range on the engine coolant temperature gauge).
2. Park the vehicle on a level surface, then turn off the engine and open
the hood.
3. Allow at least 20 minutes after engine shutdown to assure that the oil
contained in the upper parts of the engine has returned to the oil pan.
4. Protecting yourself from engine
heat, pull out the dipstick, wipe it
clean and reinsert fully.
5. Read oil level on both sides of dipstick and use highest level (reading)
for the actual engine oil level.
6. Maintain the oil level between ADD and OPERATING RANGE on the
dipstick by adding oil as required. The distance from ADD to
OPERATING RANGE on the dipstick represents 1.9L (2 quarts). Do not
overfill. If the oil level exceeds OPERATING RANGE, oil consumption
may result.

Good question, I don't know. I suspect they want the high pressure reservoir, pump and rails to be full. Why do you want it to drain? I don't think there is a way to have it all drain.

Warm oil drain
I was taught to drain engine oil after the engine has been ran and warmed up. I never just let the engine idle(waste of fuel) before a drain. I always plan to drain it after using it. Normally, I drain the oil while it's pretty hot. Fumoto drain is great for this! I was taught that the reason for this is that the oil has been pumped and moved around. so solids are more apt to be now suspended in the fluid. If you drain a cold engine, those solids have had time to settle to the pan and do not get flushed out as well. I could have been taught wrong but it made sense to me.
Disclaimer: I am in no way connected to Fumoto or any company with concerns of that oil drain system. I'm just a happy user of the product! I'm not responsible for burnt fingers or hands. I've had my share of lapses of common sense when it came to removing that plug on a hot engine too

I put back 14 qts. On my truck, it brings it up just to the last hash mark.
I warm my truck for a few minutes prior to changing my oil because it flows
out faster, and any thing that may be in the bottom of the pan will more than
likey flow out. I have always changed my oil when the engine has been warmed. Old habits are hard to break.

I have had my dealer service my 04 twice and both times I was charged for 14 qts(first one was free) and the oil was in the mid position on the stick. These guys might know what they are doing...At each service I leave a note taped on the dash which states that I do not want any computer unit checked or reflashed for any reason. "I'm happy with the truck the way it is " So far so good..Still have my pilot injector and it's still quiet....Good Luck

Hello Tim, I think PI was still available on '04's with the 03 engines thru the 09/29/03 build date which is when Ford switched to the '04 engine builds and when the moon is in the Seventh House and Jupiter aligns with Mars then peace will guide the planets...
...oops...sorry...Monday flashback effects.

OK it is probably me, but I thought all 04 PCM strategy had eliminated the PI...even if it was an 03 base line motor...so if it is still a late 03 with "old" strategy it has PI...do any of us wonder why Ford can mix us up so easy...ug...maybe it is just me

Yes MY truck is definatly a 04. It was ordered Dec 10th and delivered Feb 10th. Build date of Jan 21 ( imagine that a Wednesday build day with no problems) It was delivered in Wesminster, California to Sunset Ford. Red, SB, CC, Buckets, 2WD. I know it has the Pilot because it is definately quiet when idleing and upon cracking the throttle it gets noisey. It now has 8000 miles and towed my #7000 car trailer to Bonneville with absolutely no problems. I have added a Gibson Extreme Dual exhaust and get asked about it lot by other Ford guys who see it. Thay also like pipes on both sides. Good Luck to all and I hope mine never needs reflashing
